Secret Spain
Casara 3 R92b
Location
Trafalgar
This is a special place. The sound of the surf, whispering wind moving shimmering leaves, the scent of wild flowers and herbs stimulated all my senses on arrival.
What good therapy for stress, sit here and just take it all in and your troubles will just float away in this perfect location. The three holiday homes are set in an old Moorish style building that nestles in pastures between mature trees only 170 metres from the beach.
Access to the holiday home is via a private drive lined with palm trees of some 500m adding to the exclusivity.
A larger than normal swimming pool is shared by the three holiday homes
You have private access to the beach via a short track that passes beautiful horses and the odd chicken and turkey. The Beach is wide and sandy with a few rock pool areas to explore and washed clean twice a day by a pristine deep blue Atlantic ocean.
Look out to sea and you will notice a peninsular with a light house at the end. This is Cape Trafalgar where on October 21st, 1805 Nelson and the British navy defeated the combined fleets of Spain and France changing the course of history in the Napoleonic Wars. This is a must see area for those interested in the Peninsular Campaign of the Napoleonic wars and the Armada. In fact this is an ideal base for any student of European history, you would need a month here to see just a small portion of the sites and events that have had impact on our lives today.
This is also a very special place for those who are interested in ornithology as this place is in the centre of the rout the migrating birds use between Europe and Africa, Eagles, Vultures, Bee Eaters are all here to see.
This definitely is a piece of secret Spain. for those who want get away from the hustle and bustle of the big resorts.
The local village offers several welcoming bars restaurants and small shops and Conil de la Fronterais only a 10 min drive where all the facilities of a sea side town can be found - But no high rise!
You may be tempted to stock up with food, hide your car keys and spend all your time relaxing within the environs of your holiday home, however there is so much to do and see. You can be in the heart of old Cadiz in 40 mins or sitting in a bar on top of the world in one of the famous "peublo blanco" white hill towns, sipping the famous local sherries. There are three in close proximity, Medina Sidonia, famous for the Duke of Medina who led the Armada against England. Arcos de la Frontera, where they make tasty sweets and cakes. Vejer, where you can see the Atlas mountains of Africa across the sea.
If you ever get tired of sight seeing you can enjoy activities like Golf, Sailing, Surfing, Fishing and Horse Riding to name just a few of the pursuits open to those of an energetic nature.
Of course whilst you decide how to spend your days, you can have a dip in the pool, followed up by a barbecue using the traditional stone charcoal oven, and sip your cool sangria under a shaded area and perhaps that this is all you want to do.
I can assure the only thing that you will not like is having to leave this little paradise. You can always come again!
